Backups
Have you backed up your data lately?  A very simple question that you will be asked before we begin to work on your computer(s). Based on how you use your computer, the answer to this question could be very involved.

Regular backing up of data is very simple – you only need to back up what you would like to keep!  Unfortunately, the topic of backing up data often times only comes up when your computer is either dead due to a hardware failure or dying a slow death with malware/virus infections.

The basic question you need to ask yourself is this - what would I miss the most if my hard drive totally failed and no data could be recovered? This will begin to give you insight as to what you should be regularly backing up.

In a broad sense, backing up your files means storing it in an alternate location in case the primary location fails to perform its duty.  This involves different levels of software and hardware needs based on the usage of your electronic data.

A teenager may have several hundred songs in their iTunes program on their laptop.  An average homeowner may have many special photographs and personal financial data on their home computer. On the other end of the spectrum, a small business such as a family doctors office will have extensive patient records that are being backed up constantly in real time in case a server crashes.  Their electronic data is paramount and is often backed up on-site and off-site at several different locations as a regular course of business.

Backup media or devices consist of CD’s, DVD’s, flash drives and external hard drives.  All of these are inexpensive options for properly securing your electronic data.  Please ask us at XtremePC about backup solutions personally tailored to your needs so when disaster strikes, it is nothing more than a mere inconvenience and those precious photos of last summer’s family reunion will be enjoyed by all for many years to come.
